Avoid NICB Phone Scam

NICB has learned of a phone scam primarily originating from New York and California area codes. Callers claim to be NICB employees seeking information about fake cases and aggressively requesting personal information.
 
According to reported experiences, the caller may: 

• Have a strong accent and be difficult to understand.
• Be insistent and aggressive resorting to spelling words to be understood.
• May imply someone is attempting to use the identity of the person receiving the call. 

NICB will never:

• Demand personal, confidential information such as Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, or driver’s license numbers.
• Berate or threaten people or otherwise act aggressively.

Help Stop Scammers

If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and call NICB at 800-TEL-NICB. Provide all the information you can about the caller and contact number.
