Wisconsin State Patrol assist

The Wisconsin State Patrol works closely with other WisDOT divisions like the DMV to solve vehicle-related crimes in Wisconsin.

Recently, the WSP was notified by the DMV Vehicle Research Unit that an individual attempted to title a suspected stolen vehicle at a DMV customer service center in northwest Wisconsin. The title transaction was halted by the DMV due to a suspected fraudulent title that was presented with the application.

In coordination with a special agent with the National Insurance Crime Bureau and local law enforcement, the vehicle was located at a body shop in Chippewa County.

A VIN investigation identified the vehicle as a 2021 Dodge Challenger valued at approximately $33,000. A records check indicated the vehicle had been reported stolen by a rental car company in Hanover Park, Illinois on March 23, 2021.

The individual in Wisconsin had purchased the vehicle from an unknown subject in Illinois after seeing the vehicle listed for sale online. The WSP is assisting agencies in Wisconsin and Illinois with this ongoing investigation.
