Reading man arrested on insurance fraud charges

A Reading man filed a claim with his auto insurance carrier about hitting a deer while driving on Route 10 near Morgantown last winter, a claim that trigged red flags, authorities said.

For starters, according to investigators, two days before filing the claim on Jan. 9, 2020, for his 2013 Nissan Altima, the vehicle owner, Julio Martinez called the carrier, Cure Auto Insurance, to lower his comprehensive deductible from $1,500 — the amount he would have to pay out of pocket — to $50.
