Fulton County Woman Charged with Insurance Fraud, Forgery

Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, September 29, 2022

ATLANTA – Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Maisha Harris, 45, of Atlanta, has been charged with insurance fraud and forgery.

In January of 2021, Ms. Harris applied for and maintained an auto insurance policy with Mercury Insurance Company. Ms. Harris failed to report all accidents occurring within 5 years of the insurance application, including an incident from 2017 wherein she was the at-fault party. Additionally, Mercury Insurance Company alerted our office to a suspected fraudulent claim stemming from a traffic accident involving Ms. Harris.

“In September of 2021, Ms. Harris submitted two repair documents and multiple damage photos to Mercury Insurance Company to back up her claim,” said Commissioner King. “Upon investigation, it was determined that she misrepresented pictures found online as her own, and the repair documents were forged. Ms. Harris confirmed these facts in an email to Mercury Insurance on September 20th.”

Warrants were taken out against Ms. Harris on September 19th, 2022, for two counts each of insurance fraud and forgery.
